Are you an elementary ELA teacher in Quebec? First of all, kudos to you! Navigating the QEP can be extremely challenging and there aren’t any resources out there to help you plan…until now!
I myself am an elementary ELA teacher in Montreal, and therefore am very familiar with the struggles to understand and implement the QEP into my teaching. I have created a free resource called “The QEP Competencies Handbook”. You can download it now by clicking here!
Once I understood the QEP and was able to plan based on the QEP competencies, I decided to make it my mission to help other ELA teachers in Quebec understand the curriculum. Today I’m going to share 5 steps to plan your curriculum by creating a curriculum map. You can get your hands on my curriculum map template, which can be found in my store.
Likely Challenges If You’re a Teacher in Quebec
I recently wrote a blog post about the challenges I personally faced with the QEP. Some of my issues with the QEP are that the documents are overcomplicated, vague and not user-friendly. Click here to check out the post.
If you’re a teacher in Quebec, another big problem is that there aren’t many resources out there for you. This is ESPECIALLY true if you are teaching English Language Arts in Quebec (Vive le francais, am I right?).
That’s why I want to create more resources for ELA teachers that work in La Belle Province. Comment below what kind of resources you’d like to see me create for TEACHERS LIKE YOU!
Curriculum Mapping as a Teacher in Quebec
Below are the first 5 steps to create a curriculum map using the Curriculum Map Template for the Quebec Education Program.
- Step 1: Start by choosing your unit topics for each unit. Click here to check out my recent blog post about unit topics
- Step 2: Write your Essential Questions for each unit.
- Step 3: Set your goal for each unit. This is what you want students to understand by the end of the unit
- Step 4: Divide each skill/standard within the four main competencies into your units.
- Step 5: Complete the Unit Overview form so you can get a clear picture of the skills you are expected to teach in each unit. Use the skills you chose for each unit in step 4
- Step 6: Choose the task(s) and assessment for each standard within each unit
- Step 7: Plug these tasks and assessments into your weekly outline for each unit
